Job Description: Part Time Assistant Tutor
Literacy and Beyond is looking for a patient, experienced, and qualified tutor to work with women in our 2GEN GED Prep Program. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with students of varying grade levels who are working through their individual study plans. Tutors act as learning coaches who challenge and guide students through their assignments and encourage them to persevere and motivate themselves.
Responsibilities for tutors include but are not limited to:
Guiding new students through set up of accounts, orienting them to classroom practices, and familiarizing them with teaching materials. Following study plans created by the Director of Instruction. Creating and implementing lessons for small classes or group study of a subject as needed. Building good rapport and maintaining healthy relationships with students. Correcting lessons and offering positive feedback to encourage learning from mistakes.
Job Requirements: In order to join our team as a tutor, you must: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills Have experience teaching or tutoring in math, language arts, social studies, and/or science. Be flexible enough to work with adult students of varying ages and skill levels in multiple subjects. Preferred Qualifications: Teaching certificate preferred or accredited college or university credits (transcripts required) Job Details: This position is for approximately 16.5 hours a week. This position will be for the 2018-19 program year and will end on June 21, 2019. All school holidays and snow days off (unpaid).
